Moving to San Francisco

It’s official, our move to San Francisco will be underway tomorrow; the packers arrive in the morning and by the end of the day all our worldly possessions will be wrapped and packed up in boxes.  Thursday the movers will come to load everything onto the truck and the condo we bought pre-construction and made so many customizations and upgrades to will be a hollow shell.  It is bitter-sweet leaving, but we found wonderful tenants for our home who we feel are going to love it as much as we do (welcome to your new home C&B)!

I want to give a big shout-out to our real estate agent, Heather Holmes, who (after some trials and tribulations with a rogue property manager) rented our condo in one, 1!!, day to ideal tenants.  Heather also sold us our condo and rented us our previous place before we bought and I cannot say enough about what a great agent she is, a true pro who always goes above and beyond the call of duty.  If you need an agent, I beg you to call her!!

We also really lucked out in our home search in SF; we were there at the beginning of March and after seeing over 25 rentals in 3 days I was not feeling optimistic.  Trying to find a fabulous place in SF is practically a full-contact sport.  I happened to check the listings on Sunday morning and immediately emailed about a brand new listing we managed to see that afternoon.  I looked at another unit in the same building a previous day but it was too expensive, so I knew I loved the building and the finishes.  Paul and I knew immediately this was our space as soon as we walked in; we made our offer on the spot and found out that night the owners accepted!  It was meant to be; the condo development is brand new by a Toronto builder, and our new unit number is the exact same as our unit in Toronto.  We feel so thankful to have found such an amazing space with owners who are really lovely people.  We cannot wait to move in …. and I cannot wait to get decorating!

We’ll be staying in Toronto for the weekend to say farewell, then Sunday we are SF bound!  Given the horrible March weather we’ve had (as I look out the window it is a friggen’ blizzard) I am really looking forward to the California sunshine!

Thanks, also, to a fabulous SF blog called ‘The Bold Italic‘ not only for all the fantastic general info about our new city but for the specific article on ‘moving to San Francisco‘ a break-down of (most of) the different neighbourhoods.  So where did we land(ia)?  We’ll be hanging our hats in Mission Bay, which doesn’t get a specific designation from ‘The Bold Italic’ but it is basically in between Soma/China Basin and Dogpatch.
